When our Sam was sent off in the World Cup match against France it was one of those moments: some said it felt like the air had been sucked from their lung, it was such a big moment.
But it lead to a big challenge as Wales had no replacement Number 7 on the bench to bring on (at the expense of someone else) to fill the vital void left by Warburton’s departure. You’d think that the team management would have remebered that lesson, but it appears not.
Whilst I don’t expect to see Sam sent off again on Saturday, it is a heck of a risk to not have a specialist 7 on the bench to take on the Aussie expert: Pocock. Justin Tipuric can count himself extremely unlucky not to be on the bench, whilst some might even suggest that he is unlucky not to be starting after his performance against the Barbarians.
Let’s hope that Sam lasts the course.
